Genius Renovate Limited – Part 1 How we created a new franchise company name
1. Company Name
Genius Teamcare are always looking for opportunities. Genius Property has been our standard name for the property care franchise, so why do we need to create a new franchise? What are our goals?
We have been planning a new franchise to use a company we already own. The problem with the company name was other people in the same industry were using the same or similar name. What should we do? Don’t bother or adapt? We wanted to support another project being developed by John and his friend Rudy. A property sourcing business, Direct Sourcing Ltd.
John wanted to continue our Genius Property franchise, but separate the maintenance from the sourcing. And, the dependency on each other for tax, VAT, insurance complications and to provide a streamlined service for both companies.
The Genius Property name has been used by Genius Teamcare and it’s predecessors as a franchise name since 2015. And John Crook traded as Genius Property since 2010. Problem was, we originally created Genius Teamcare Limited because we wanted a company with a two word name (we had Genius Property Teamcare LTD, but the name was too long).
We now still had Genius Property Teamcare LTD and were faced with the choice. Do we dissolve the company or use it? When I told Rudy, he said “Keep it!” So I had thought of using the company to buy my woodworking business. I changed it to Genius Retail Limited. After I had completed the workshop transaction and sold on the equipment, I decided to asset strip the company and dissolve it. Once I spoke to Rudy, I had a purpose.
We tried to change the company name to Genius Property Company Limited, but Companies House said it was too close to an existing company. As we were still intending using the business for property maintenance, I picked Genius Property Services Limited. It’s a good name, easy to understand what it does. But, as for making a website that is another matter.

1159 companies using the name “genius”
328331 using “property”
7 using “genius property”
277 using “renovate”
and
1 using “genius renovate” including us
We need to be known for what we do and we need to be recognized by customers typing our business name. Our business name needs to describe our service with no explanation. We also need a name that isn’t competing with another company in Google searches, or just in first page.
Renovations are going to be the majority earning segment of the business, so we picked “Genius Renovate Limited.” And it doesn’t compete on the property searches (see our SEO article coming soon). Playing around with thesaurus websites we found the word “renovate”. And Genius Renovate Limited matches our requirement for a two word name and having a domain name available like https://www.genius-renovate.com is both memorable and descriptive as well.
We also found out there is another company with Genius Property in it’s name that is offering property maintenance and using the same external partnerships we intend to use.
Now we have a good business name we can get working on the website, SEO and advertising. Actually we have completed the design of the website, so you can go ahead and check it out at: https://genius-renovate.com
